Geoffrey is a Licensed Surveyor and a Certified Professional Member of the Spatial Sciences Institute of Australia. He has contributed to the community though service on the WALIS (W.A. Land Information System) Advisory Committee and as chair of a sub-committee, advising government collaborative agency on community and industry needs.
After a survey cadetship in WA, Geoffrey qualified as a Licensed Surveyor in 1972. The following year he moved to South Africa, joining a large firm of civil engineers as company surveyor. He was responsible for in-house survey needs of the firm and provided surveying and mapping advice for engineering staff. In 1979 he returned to Perth and worked in a range of senior roles for Associated Surveys, later Fugro Survey. In 1999 he established Geoproject Solutions.
During postgraduate studies his research project was "Computer assisted alignment reconstruction", to investigate methods used for reconstructing lines from sampled points. The result demonstrated an improved schema for reconstructing man-made alignments from minimal sampled data.
